POLAR FOUNDATION - Novembre 2009
Château Maris is an organic and biodynamic winery located in the Languedoc region of Southern France.
Its founder, Robert Eden has chosen to support the International Polar Foundation. Workingin the weather sensitive sector of wine growing, Robert is keen in supporting IPF’s role as a bridge between science and society, aimed at understanding and tackling climate change. In applying biodynamic philosophy for the management of his vineyard, Robert Eden himself brings science back to nature, rebuilding a link between people and their ecosystem.
This vision of sustainability and energy efficiency was the drive for building the first ‘zero emission’ research station in the most hostile environment on Earth, Princess Elisabeth Antarctica. The IPF thus demonstrated the feasibility of a ‘low carbon’ alternative vs a ‘business as usual’ approach. Likewise, in his decision of constructing a new ‘zero emission’ cellar, Robert Eden followed the same path, minimalizing the impacts of the Château Maris activities on the environment and taking up global responsibility while bringing forward wines of distinct quality.
Both committed actors within their respective domains, the IPF and Château Maris show that mankind ought to push its limits and dare to think differently to open the path for far-reaching changes. In taking alternate views on existing processes, whether it be wine-making or conducting polar research, each individual or organization can contribute to solutions that do not only equal existing techniques, but can often emulate them while respecting the legacy of future generations.
Globally recognized by top wine critics over the world, Château Maris supports the IPF through the IPF Old Vine Syrah 2007 and gives 0.90 cents for every bottle sold.
